Yes, The MCU's Captain Marvel Can Move Planets

Spoilers ahead for Avengers: Infinity War.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is in flux right now, and the possibilities seem endless. Avengers: Infinity War brought all of the shared universe's major characters together for an epic battle against Josh Brolin's Thanos, and half of the galaxy was wiped out with the snap of a finger. It's currently unclear how the surviving heroes will turn things around, although smart money says that Brie Larson's Captain Marvel will be a key player. The character's introduction was teased in the post credits scene of Infinity War, and she's seems like the most powerful MCU hero yet. As Larson tells it, she may be stronger than we even imagined.

She's so, so strong. She can move planets!

And just like that, Thanos doesn't seem quite as terrifying. Because while he was able to destroy a moon and use it as a projectile in the epic battle on Titan, Captain Marvel could have moved Thanos' entire home planet. And with the OG Avengers still around to help kick ass, Avengers 4 suddenly got even more exciting.

Brie Larson's comments to E! about Captain Marvel's strength is enough to get any self respecting fan boy excited. Part of the fun of superhero movies is finally seeing your favorite hero's powers in live-action, and Captain Marvel is going to bring a scale that we haven't seen much in the MCU. Thor and Hulk have typically been the muscle of The Avengers, although they were both easily tossed aside by Thanos in Infinity War's opening scene. Captain Marvel will make history as the first female solo film of the franchise, but it'll also open new doors of possibilities for superpowers.

Anticipation for Captain Marvel has slowly been building, as Brie Larson was announced as the title character nearly two years ago, long before filming the blockbuster would happen. Production for Captain Marvel is on now, so Larson obviously has a much more intimate feel for Carol Danvers and her abilities. And Captain Marvel's intense super strength is just the tip of the iceberg.

In addition to super strength, Captain Marvel typically has a bevy of other super powers. She's near invulnerable and has super speed, flight, and the ability to absorb and project energy through her hands. We'll see how Carol Danvers acquires these abilities in her solo movie, and how she uses them in order to save the planet from an intergalactic war. Samuel L. Jackson and Clark Gregg will reprise their MCU roles as Nick Fury and Agent Coulson. Additionally, Jude Law will play Carol's mentor Mar-Vell, while Lee Pace will return as Ronin The Destroyer.

How Long Avengers 4 Currently Is, According To Joe Russo

This year's Avengers: Infinity War was an event a decade in the making; the moment 18 films had been building towards and the beginning of the end of Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That film's 2 hour and 40 minute runtime reflected that import, clocking in as the MCU's longest film to date. Avengers 4 is set to be even more momentous and it sounds like it could be much longer too, according to co-director Joe Russo:

The running time on Avengers 4 is currently sitting right at three hours. We'll see if that holds.

That is very, very long. A three-hour runtime would easily make Avengers 4 the longest MCU movie to date by a wide margin and probably the longest one that there would be for some time, at least until Avengers 5 or something similarly massive comes along. And as the final Phase 3 film and the culmination of the MCU's first decade, Avengers 4 would certainly befit such an epic runtime.

Of course, as Joe Russo said, that runtime could change, it's just that three hours is where Avengers 4 is at right now. Still though, that runtime does in a way confirm the obvious, that Avengers 4 has a lot of story to tell and it will be an epic film that completes this Phase of the MCU in a big way.

Avengers 4 is a long way off from picture lock, and while I wouldn't expect that runtime to increase, it could definitely come down to something closer to Avengers: Infinity War's runtime. In the live-stream promoting his new bar Duello, Joe Russo also spoke about where he and brother Anthony are in the edit, saying:

We're about halfway through the editing process. We're really just scratching the surface on our VFX shots. There are more than 3,000 VFX shots in the movie; those require a lot of time and thought and energy and effort, and we're very early in the phase of getting VFX done. We've just started work with Alan Silvestri on the score, and we're still editing picture at this point.

So basically there is still a lot of work to be done on Avengers 4 before it is ready to play in theaters. The scoring has just begun, the bulk of the VFX is not finished and the cut itself is still being worked on. A lot of things can and probably will change between now and when the film is finished, but this at least gives us an idea of where this crazily anticipated movie is currently at. Joe Russo did not, however, provide any answers about the film's title or when we'll be seeing the first trailer.

It would be very interesting if Avengers 4 made it to theaters with a three-hour runtime. You don't see three-hour movies very much in general, and definitely not for blockbusters. Studios tend to favor shorter runtimes (e.g. Justice League) to pack in more screenings per day and not discourage audiences from seeing a film because of a daunting length.

Three-hour runtimes are usually the dominion of prestige auteurist flicks as opposed to mass-market blockbusters. The only movie approaching an analog is the 3 hour and 21 minute Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. That movie did alright for itself, though even if it could have used an intermission for bathroom breaks.

I think a lot of MCU fans would be totally on board for a three-hour Avengers 4. One would think that this movie has a lot of ground to cover and a runtime that allows the film to do that while not feeling rushed or short-changed would be for the best. Whatever the runtime is, I just want it to be no shorter than what the Russo Brothers need to tell their story.

The past few years have been very good for horror fans, as innovative and quality movies have arrived in theaters, and made a ton of money at the box office. This includes some remakes of classics, including Blumhouse's Halloween and 2017's IT. Pennywise the dancing clown will return to terrify audiences with IT: Chapter 2, picking up decades after the story wrapped up on the first movie.

There's a fantastic cast attached to IT: Chapter 2, including James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, and Bill Hader. The latter is playing the adult version of foulmouthed Richie, taking on the role from Stranger Things favorite Finn Wolfhard. But it turns out that Hader actually kept ruining takes during filming. As the SNL alum revealed:

This is my first horror movie, and Im terrible at acting scared, apparently. When Im scared, I think I smile. Like, I get nervous and I smile We would do takes and the director Andy Muschetti would come and hes like, Bill, you need to be scared, man. I go, I was terrified! He goes, No man, youre smiling the whole time. Whats wrong with you? And its true.

Well, that's hilarious. We all have our own nervous tics, and it looks like Bill Hader tends to smile when he's terrified. While that might work in his personal life, it tended to ruin the moment during sequences of IT: Chapter 2.

Bill Hader's comments to Collider show how much levity is truly on the set of horror movies. While the finished product may give audiences nightmares, there's plenty of times to crack jokes while filming movies like IT. Especially when one of the actors is smiling through the upcoming sequel's most terrifying scenes. Whoops.

Fans of the first IT (aren't we all?) are no doubt wondering what type of scares are ahead for the sequel, and which sequences are the ones that Bill Hader accidentally smiled through. The first movie was rife with jump scares, and horrifying imagery of Pennywise that makes the original miniseries look like a children's story in comparison.

The casting of Bill Hader as Richie was a major selling point for IT: Chapter 2 before it began production. As soon as the first movie was released, fans began theorizing who could play the adult version of the Losers' Club. Hader was actually suggested by Finn Wolfhard himself, as the young actor did press for the first film. And that came to fruition, much to the joy of both Wolfhard and the general public.

When IT: Chapter 2 arrives in theaters, adult Richie has become a successful DJ in Los Angeles. While that seems like the perfect career for him, he must return to Derry to follow through on his pact, and hopefully destroy Pennywise once and for all.
