The Official Harry Potter Site Revealed A Disgusting Fact About Hogwarts
Even magical shit has to stink on its way out. So the implications of Pottermore's latest revelation are still wafting through the Harry Potter fandom. On one hand, it's just funny. On the other hand, eww. Now, when we go back to watch the Harry Potter films, we may be left imagining what it was like in those early centuries -- centuries, plural! -- when witches and wizards just ... let loose. Here's what J.K. Rowling's official site decided to dump on the entire class:
Ummm. Many fans are wondering why we needed to know that, even on National Trivia Day. But Pottermore wasn't done, it also tied the news into the Chamber of Secrets, saying the new plumbing almost revealed the Chamber's entrance.
This is all fictional, of course (or is it?), but fans always take the world of Harry Potter very seriously. So it's kind of disturbing to imagine how long students and teachers (and house elves?) went with this method. As we have been told, Godric Gryffindor, Rowena Ravenclaw, Helga Hufflepuff, and Salazar Slytherin founded Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the 10th century, and the plumbing changes came during the 18th Century.

Many Harry Potter fans are filing this news away in the growing drawer of things J.K. Rowling thinks we need to know but we would rather have lived without.
You could argue that some details in the ongoing Fantastic Beasts saga also belong in that drawer, but that depends on your point-of-view. We're only two films into that five-film story. Fantastic Beasts 3 already has a title (not that it has been announced yet) and an arrival date of 2020.
The second film, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, introduced a younger Professor Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) at Hogwarts -- which did have plumbing at the time. That film didn't do quite as well at the box office as the first film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. We'll have to see if that trend continues with the third film, or if fans are so curious about the big twists that they come running to get the promised answers.

Aquaman Box Office: The New DCEU Hit Crushes Mary Poppins And Bumblebee
We have been looking forward to this box office showdown for weeks. On Friday audiences nationwide saw five new wide releases playing on the big screen, and analysts have been speculating for months about how things would turn out once the dust cleared. Now he finally have an answer, and it turns out that Arthur Curry's ascension to become the king of Atlantis has been matched by James Wan's Aquaman earning this week's box office crown. While Rob Marshall's Mary Poppins Returns and Travis Knight's Bumblebee put up a good fight (more on them later), Aquaman earned the number one spot this week by earning about three times as much as both of them. It's been more than a year since we've seen a new entry from the DC Extended Universe, with Zack Snyder's Justice League under-performing and disappointing last November, but the good news is that the franchise has come back strong. The movie has been riding high on positive buzz for weeks thanks to an early review embargo lift/international release, and that translated to some solid numbers for the aquatic superhero.
It should be noted that the numbers don't look amazing when compared to the other releases from the DCEU, but that's why context is important. When looking at the franchise as a whole, Aquaman actually has the lowest domestic opening of any title released (Justice League is ahead of it, having made $93.8 million in its first three days), but none of the other titles had competition on the level that James Wan's film had. One also can't continue this discussion without mentioning the absolutely crazy numbers that the blockbuster is posting in foreign markets. After this weekend, the movie has made nearly $500 million which is a really a stunning amount when you consider that Justice League ultimately only made $657.9 in its entire worldwide run.
Aquaman is clearly off to an awesome start, but the road ahead may be tricky. Audiences are definitely loving the adventure, and it has earned an "A-" on CinemaScore, but it will be interesting to see how long its legs wind up being. Around this time last year it was Star Wars: The Last Jedi that was absolutely crushing at the start, but come January it was Jake Kasdan's Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle that wound up repeatedly taking the top spot.
Of course, that history, plus the impressive run by Michael Sucsy's The Greatest Showman, should also be highly considered by both Mary Poppins Returns and Bumblebee. While neither is able to now say that they are the number one movie in America, both managed to put up solid numbers and now sit in positive places. Sure, they didn't exactly meet hopes and expectations, but they have time.
Mary Poppins Returns had a bit of a head start on the weekend, coming out on the 19th instead of the 21st, but even that bonus didn't allow it to get much of a boost in its first week of theatrical release. There were estimates a few weeks ago that suggested that the throwback sequel could make as much as $70 million in its first few days, but the reality is that the movie made about half of that. It's still on track to do well, thanks to solid reviews, an "A-" CinemaScore, and box office earnings that have bumped it up an extra $20 million. It still has a bit of road to go before it fully justifies the reported $130 million it cost to make before marketing, but the fact that it's a feature as family-friendly as it is suggests it should continue do well as we get into the first few weeks of the new year.
As for Bumblebee, the film is much like Aquaman in that it's the title with the slowest opening for its respective franchise (Transformers: The Last Knight made $44.7 million when it came out in June 2017), but the competition factor once again is a major element. What this one has working in its favor, however, is something that the others did not: positive critical buzz. The blockbuster is holding firm at 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, and that should at the very least spark up some curiosity from those who feel that they were burned by the Michael Bay features. This one is meant to be a bit of a fresh start for the brand, most notably in that it's a prequel set years before all of the Bayhem, and it will be interesting to see what its final numbers are domestically (particularly when you consider Transformers: The Last Knight wound up making only $130.2 million domestically, which was only a little over 20 percent of the total grosses).
The three films discussed so far were always expected to be one, two and three at the box office, but Peter Segal's Second Act and Robert Zemeckis' Welcome To Marwen were seen as wild cards. As expected, neither of them performed phenomenally, though the former most definitely did better than the latter, while both earned negative responses from critics.
The romantic comedy Second Act was hailed as a throwback for some, pleased to see the return of Jennifer Lopez on the big screen, but it didn't exactly inspire a whole lot of ticket sales. Out in more than 2,600 theaters, it only managed to make a little more than $6.5 million - though that isn't the worst score when you consider that it's reported budget was only $16 million.
The outlook for Welcome To Marwen, on the other hand, is a lot worse. Not only did the feature only make it into the Top 10 by $300,000, but it only made a third of what Second Act did while costing more than twice as much (it had a $39 million budget). This one is definitely going to go down as a bomb, though it's certainly not Robin Hood/Mortal Engines-level bad.
All of the big movies mentioned here will continue to duke it out from now until the end of 2018, but it's worth noting that Christmas will see a couple more new releases join the dog pile. What The Godzilla End-Credits Scenes Probably Mean For The Future Of The MonsterVerse
Warning: Spoilers for Godzilla: King of the Monsters are in play. If you havent seen the film yet, come back once youve caught up with the action, and are cleared for duty.
At the end of Godzilla: King of the Monsters, a brave new world is set into motion. With Monarch unable to hide the existence of the Titans from the public, and massive events of devastation rocking several major cities of the globe, the time has apparently come in which human and Titan will strive for co-existence.
With the sequel, Godzilla vs. Kong heading into theaters next year, theres going to be a lot to chew on between now and that films March 2020 debut. And luckily, its all thanks to some interesting headlines shown during the films end credits, as well as a particular moment that makes up the post-credits stinger for the film.
Were going to discuss both in great detail, so if youre looking to avoid spoilers, this is your final warning. Otherwise, we hope your Monarch clearance levels are up to date, as were about to pull back the curtain on Godzilla: King of the Monsters and what its ending credits probably mean for the future of Warner Bros. and Legendarys MonsterVerse.
What Happens During The Credits Of Godzilla: King Of The MonstersWith a mass awakening of Titans occurring thanks to the actions of both Vera Farmigas Monarch operative Dr. Emma Russell and Charles Dances eco-terrorist, Col. Alan Jonah, the cryptozoological organization had two choices: try to pull off the greatest coverup of all time, or share their research with the public. In light of Godzilla: King of the Monsters events, Monarch decided it was time for the latter to finally happen.
Monarchs research about Titans, their behavior, their history, and even events of films like Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla, is released to the public en masse in the aftermath of this grand scale event. As such, the world starts to change in light of the revelation that is the existence of Titans.
Cruise ships are surprised by visits with the King of the Monsters himself, and they wind up being Twitter moments. Prehistoric plants are not only coming back, they could be the new superfood. And most importantly, the earth is starting to be healed thanks to the Titans no longer being driven by King Ghidorahs influence to destroy the world.
But there is a slight downside, as the area around Skull Island seems to be unstable, and all of these New Titans are starting to set up camp in that area. Which, more than likely, will piss off the current inhabitants of that area, most of all King Kong. And the danger doesnt stop there, as the rogue elements from Godzilla: King of the Monsters are making another play at some unfinished business in the post credits stinger.
What Happens After The Credits Of Godzilla: King Of The MonstersAfter all is said and done with the wave of new world acceptance between Titans and humanity, theres still a bit of a black market to be had for Titans and Titan by-products. At the very end of Godzilla: King of the Monsters, we return to Isla De Mara, the Mexican village devastated by the awakening of Rodan.
And its not for a particularly good reason either, as the decapitated head of King Ghidorah has been recovered by some enterprising parties. Yes, we see the remains of the invasive alien species up for grabs to the highest bidder, and that bidder just happens to be one Col. Alan Jonah: someone who definitely knows how to make a buck off of Titan DNA.
Surviving the events of Godzilla: King of the Monsters, the man and his remaining cronies are very inclined to procure this item. Once its revealed to the audience that hes the mysterious shopper looking to add that gigantic piece to his collection, the scene ends with a line of dialogue so benign, but so chilling: Well take it. With this last piece falling into place, the fate of the MonsterVerse can now be explored.
How The Future Of The MonsterVerse Will Probably Be Shaped By Godzilla: King Of The MonstersNaturally, going forward in the MonsterVerse, two story components are about to change drastically: the world of the Titans and the world of humans. Both will obviously clash again, as Godzilla vs. Kong isnt going to merely let the Titans have their fun in a vacuum. But the changes in both look to be spectacular leaps forward.
With the world of Titans expanding to include numerous other species that are just coming back to the earth, theres going to be a lot of adjustments that those creatures will have to make to live in the world theyve just entered into. Also, it wouldnt be a huge surprise to see Godzilla vs. Kong kick off because of the fact that just as Kong has settled into his own groove as the king of Skull Island, a new king and his disciples are about to crash the party.
Meanwhile, with Col. Alan Jonahs procurement of King Ghidorahs remaining head, theres a lot of bad stuff that could be headed down the line in the MonsterVerses human half. Everything from cloning/resurrecting King Ghidorah, to using the creatures DNA to hybridize or enhance Titans and/or humans is on the table. Whatever his intent is, its bound to be something unsavory, and something that will lead to his potential return in Godzilla vs. Kong.
Everything presented here boils down to the fact that while huge strides have been made in acknowledging the presence of Titans, as well as trying to foster co-existence with them in this world, there is still a greater struggle ahead. Humanity isnt just going to accept these creatures wholeheartedly, and the Titans look like they might have another brawl for it all, with only one king standing in the wake of that promised conflict.
Its all certainly exciting stuff to think over while walking out of Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and its even more thrilling when you realize that Godzilla vs. Kong wont have as long of a waiting period as fans endured between this new sequel and 2014s Godzilla.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters is currently in theaters, while Godzilla vs. Kong smashes its way into theaters on March 13, 2020; a day bound to be unlucky for one major Titan in the MonsterVerse.
