Solo: A Star Wars Story Apparently Cut One Awesome Imperial Scene

Solo: A Star Wars Story creates a life for Han Solo before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, but it also creates a corner of the Star Wars galaxy we've never seen before. Since this part of the Star Wars story had never been told before, screenwriters Lawrence and Jonathan Kasdan played with different ideas about how certain parts of the story would play out. Jonathan Kasdan told CinemaBlend that at one point, when Han decides to join the military as a solution to avoid capture, exactly which army he was joining was left up in the air. One idea had Han potentially joining up with a different army but eventually finding himself in a very familiar uniform. As Jonathan Kasdan explained...

There was an incarnation of this script early on, a thing that I loved. He joined up with the army, and we weren't clear exactly what the army was gonna be at the beginning. We thought maybe it would be the Corellian army. We were playing with this idea of people being thrown into wars like Vietnam, and they just don't know what their job is gonna be. At one point in the scene, and this was a great thing I'm sorry we lost, a big senior officer says, 'You're all gonna be much safer from now on because you're going to be wearing these.' And he smashes down a stormtrooper helmet. There are great ideas, and they were all through the movie and contributed by all people that get peeled away as you try to create a lean story that is on point.

In the final cut of Solo: A Star Wars Story there's no question that Han is making the decision to join the Imperial Navy, expecting to be a pilot. That doesn't work out for him, and he ends up a soldier on the ground. However, it seems that at one point the movie was going to be more vague about where Han was joining up. It would have been made clear to him, and the audience, when it was revealed he would be expected to wear a Stormtrooper's uniform. Which would have caused us to look at the sequence in Star Wars: A New Hope when he put one on a little differently.

This certainly would have been a cool reveal in the moment, though it's understandable why the decision was made to change it. As Jonathan Kasdan says, eventually you need to start stripping away the parts of the story that are unnecessary so the movie doesn't get bogged down. As cool as this reference would have been, Han's time in the Imperial army really only exists to get him to the location the story requires, making the details much less relevant.

While the Stormtrooper helmet didn't make it into the final cut, there are numerous fun and interesting Star Wars easter eggs and references in the film. You can see them all in Solo: A Star Wars Story in theaters now.

Godzilla: King Of The Monsters Director Has Big Ideas For What Happens Right After His Movie Ends

Warning: SPOILERS for Godzilla: King of the Monsters are ahead!

The general public wasnt aware that the Titans existed before the events of Godzilla, but the giant reptiles clash with the MUTOs changed everything. Five years later, Godzillas collision with Rodan, Mothra and King Ghidorah in Godzilla: King of the Monsters resulted in even more destruction across the world, and now the public is fully in the loop on these beasts since Monarch shared the information itd collected about them over the decades.

So how does humanity go forward from here? Obviously were not done with Titan fights by a long shot, as Godzilla vs. Kong is less than a year away. But in terms of the overall status quo, Godzilla: King of the Monsters director Michael Dougherty told CinemaBlends own Jeff McCobb that the population will need to heed the late Dr. Ishiro Serizawas (played by Ken Watanabe) advice and make peace with the Titans existence. As Dougherty put it:

I feel like humans have no choice but to live by Serizawas words, which is that we have to learn how to coexist with the Titans. Now that the genies out of the bottle, we have no choice but to accept the fact that mankind is no longer at the top of the food chain.

During Godzilla: King of the Monsters, there was a debate over whether it was better to learn to coexist with the Titans or if we were better off killing them. The U.S. government certainly tried its best to kill both Godzilla and King Ghidorah with its Oxygen Destroyer, but the weapon only seriously harmed Godzilla, with King Ghidorah barely being fazed.

Had Dr. Ishiro Serizawa not sacrificed his life to revive Godzilla so that the reptile could defeat his arch-nemesis once and for all, Earth would be destroyed. So as Thomas Middleditchs character, Sam Coleman, mentioned early in the movie, there are some Titans that are here to help us, and some that are here to threatens us. Its great to learn which is which, but humanity now needs to learn that the beasts have been here longer than us and are here to stay.

Judging by the Godzilla: King of the Monsters credits, it looks like a lot of folks are getting used to this. Along with Monarch publishing all its research, it was also revealed that some cruise ships have passed by Godzilla himself, prehistoric plants are popping up that some consider to be superfood, and Earth is starting to be healed thanks to the Titans no longer being influenced by King Ghidorah, who wasnt even native to our world.

Still, that doesnt mean that everything is all fine and dandy in the MonsterVerse now that King Ghidorah is gone. It was also noted in the Godzilla: King of the Monsters credits that Skull Island has started to become unstable, with many new Titans setting up shop there, which will undoubtedly not sit well with the islands ruler, King Kong.

This sets the stage for Godzilla vs. Kong, which will see these two behemoths clash for the first time in an American production. While their battle will be the main draw, the fourth MonsterVerse entry will also show Monarch delving into the Titans origins and a conspiracy to wipe out these creatures being uncovered.

What Hope Is Struggling With In Ant-Man And The Wasp

While most of us are still reeling from the events of Avengers: Infinity War, there's another Marvel movie in less than two months. Now, the film's director gives us a peek into the head of one of the title characters. Specifically, Hope Van Dyne, who will take her place alongside Ant-Man as the Wasp for the first time in the new film. However, just because she's the "new" hero doesn't mean that she will be anything less than confident in her own abilities, it's her partner that she's worried about. According to Peyton Reed...

Well, the movie is absolutely about Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne, and Hope becoming Wasp... and their relationship is a little fractured... I think for Hope particularly, the question is out there: 'Do I need this guy in my life? I'm a fully formed hero in my own right, do I need a partner?' That was really a fun kind of premise to start from.

A sequel that sees a hero saddled with a partner they're not sure about is far from uncommon in film, but usually, it's not the new partner who wants to dump the old guy, it's the other way around. However, while Hope Van Dyne has never been the hero before, it's a role that even in the first film it was clear she'd been training for. She's more ready to be the hero than Scott Lang ever was, which, apparently, leads her to wonder if she really needs him once she becomes the Wasp.

Peyton Reed tells ComicBook.com that the relationship between Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne will have slowed down and seen some distance grow from where Ant-Man left them, which is likely part of why Hope isn't so sure about Scott. Her questions extend beyond his ability to be a hero, she's not her she needs him in her life.

From what we've seen in the trailers, Scott Lang will continue to be a bit of a reluctant hero. While he has certainly built up some skills, he's not completely the best at using them, while the trailers have shown us that the Wasp is going to kick all of the ass and take all of the names.

This sounds great, if only because it puts an interesting and fresh twist on what would otherwise be a fairly standard set up for a sequel. We can likely be fairly confident how things will turn out for our two title characters. Ant-Man and the Wasp is unlikely to be that original in its storytelling. Still, watching to see how the relationship resolves itself should be fun if the sequel is as good as the underrated original.
