How Vision Almost Looked In Avengers: Age of Ultron

By  at January 30, 2020  , , ,  No comments
How Vision Almost Looked In Avengers: Age of Ultron

For years, Paul Bethany's J.A.R.V.I.S. served as Tony Stark's trusty AI, but in Avengers: Age of Ultron, he evolved into something greater, merging with Ultron's android body and the Mind Stone to become Vision. As with nearly all comic book characters brought to life on film, the MCU's Vision isn't a direct adaptation of the Vision from the comics, but visually, his color scheme closely matches that of his comic book counterpart. However, originally the plan for Vision in Age of Ultron was for him to have a graying body and a gold faceplate. As Ryan Meinerding, Marvel Studio's head of visual development, recalled:

[Director] Joss [Whedon] really wanted Vision to stay human-colored. He really wanted him to look like Paul Bettany with the bit of styling on him, and when we did versions of that, it seemed hard to make that look cool and interesting.

You can head over to EW to see Ryan Meinerding's concept art of Vision's original look for Avengers: Age of Ultron, but had director Joss Whedon gone with this design, Vision would have looked significantly different from the one currently flying around the MCU. That being said, it wouldn't have been unprecedented to have a gray/white-colored Vision. Writer Roy Thomas, Vision's co-creator, originally envisioned the character being all white, but due to printing limitations, he was instead made all red. Vision later transitioned into his standard yellow, green and red color scheme, but in the West Coast Avengers book, the android's reconstructed body was chalk-white, as seen below.

While Vision still would have looked distinctive had he rocked the all-white body and gold faceplate, I agree with Ryan Meinerding that it was better that the Avengers: Age of Ultron creative team went with a more classic look. Not only is it more faithful to the source material, it helps Vision stand out from the crowd, though as seen in Captain America: Civil War, the android occasionally likes to wear actual clothes to better fit into society.

He'll take that a step further next month in Avengers: Infinity War, as the movie's teaser trailer showed Vision looking almost completely human, with only the Mind Stone on his forehead giving away that he's... special. Since Vision will be targeted in Infinity War because he possesses an Infinity Stone, many fans have been preparing for the possibility that he will meet his demise. But even if that happens, it would be easier to bring Vision back to life compared to most other characters, and perhaps his new body would look incredibly different.

You can see Vision back in action when Avengers: Infinity War is released on April 27. To find out what else the MCU has in development, look through our Marvel movies guide.

Captain Marvel's Co-Director Can't Wait To See Carol Fight Thanos In Avengers: Endgame

Captain Marvel's Co-Director Can't Wait To See Carol Fight Thanos In Avengers: Endgame

While most of Avengers: Endgame is still being kept secret even with it arriving in a little less than four months, one of the things we can definitely look forward in the final Phase 3 installment is Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Captain Marvel, teaming up with Avengers: Infinity War's surviving heroes. It's quite the next step forward following her first MCU appearance in early March, and Captain Marvel co-director Ryan Fleck is looking forward to the prospect of Carol coming to blows with Thanos in Endgame. As Fleck put it:

At the beginning of our movie, she doesn't know how powerful she is. But by the end, you'll see that, uh... let's just say this, I'm very excited to see what she does to Thanos in Endgame.

Ryan Fleck teased Carol Danvers' power levels while speaking with AMC Theatres alongside the other Captain Marvel co-director, Anna Boden, but it should be noted that Fleck wasn't divulging any insider information Avengers: Endgame, and he was likely speculating as a fan when making his comment about Carol and Thanos. That being said, if Brie Larson's version of Carol is as mighty as Fleck is hinting, then one can assume that the chances of her throwing a punch or two at the Mad Titan are stronger than not.

This isn't the first time we've heard about just how powerful Carol Danvers is in the MCU, as last year, Brie Larson noted that Carol has the ability to move planets. The only feat we've seen in this franchise that comes remotely close to that is Thanos using a moon as a projectile in Avengers: Infinity War, and he needed an Infinity Stone to make that happen. Carol can accomplish that and then some without any aid.

Still, let's not forget that although the Infinity Gauntlet was damaged at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, all six Infinity Stones are still intact and in Thanos' possession. It's possible that their powers have diminished after Thanos carried out his genocide, but regardless, while Carol has the ability to go mano a mano with him, presumably it will still be a difficult battle for her, assuming these two even face off against one another.

Before Carol Danvers crosses paths with the other MCU heroes and aids them in undoing Thanos' slaughter of half of all life in the universe, we'll learn about her origins more than two decades ago in Captain Marvel. Set in 1995, the penultimate Phase 3 movie will show Carol as an operative for the Kree military team Starforce. But upon being drawn back to Earth, she'll uncover the secrets of her past, i.e. how she went from a fully human U.S. Air Force pilot to a half human, half Kree noble warrior hero, and all while she prevents her homeworld from being overtaken by the conflict between the Kree and the Skrulls.

Captain Marvel flies into theaters on March 8 and Avengers: Endgame will follow on April 26. For everything else the MCU has in development, check out our handy guide.

The Solo Design Team Had The Best Time Making The Movies Millennium Falcon

The Solo Design Team Had The Best Time Making The Movies Millennium Falcon

As Han Solo acknowledged to Luke Skywalker in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, the Millennium Falcon may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, and that's been proven time and time again in both the original Star Wars trilogy and the sequel trilogy. But with Solo: A Star Wars Story turning the clock back to Han's younger years and showing, among other things, how he obtained the Millennium Falcon from Lando Calrissian, that presented an opportunity to redesign arguably the most famous ship in a galaxy far, far away. This was a challenge that Solo design supervisor James Clyne and his team thoroughly embraced, and it sounds like they had a lot of fun pulling it off. Clyne explained:

I think the big exciting thing about doing a new Falcon was the question of, we all know what an old Millennium Falcon looks like, but what does the new Millennium Falcon look like? That was really exciting. What does a clean Millennium Falcon look like? I think that was the big thing that I always wanted to see going into the movie. As a kid, I just loved it for what it was. I thought it was perfect. But when it was proposed that you would see a cleaner, newer Lando version, I couldn't get more excited about and more scared about that prospect.

While the Millennium Falcon isn't a brand-new ship when we see it in Solo: A Star Wars Story, Lando Calrissian poured a lot of resources into customizing it and keeping it looking spiffy. You can see some of the crazier Millennium Falcon designs that James Clyne and his team came up with over at StarWars.com, but the final choice is a nice blend of fresh and familiar. Nevertheless, the Millennium Falcon isn't just a popular element of the Star Wars franchise, it's also one of the most famous vehicles in science fiction, so needless to say that Clyne felt the pressure of making this early iteration of the spacecraft look great. Clyne continued:

There was a certain level of sheer terror in taking this on. I mean, it's like the most beloved thing you've ever seen in the Star Wars universe. It's like somebody asking you to change the Eiffel Tower or something.

Warning: SPOILERS for Solo: A Star Wars Story are ahead!

By the end of Solo: A Star Wars Story, the Millennium Falcon looked a lot more like the ship we've known and love for years. The ship took a pounding while Han, Lando, Chewbacca, Qi'ra, and Tobias Becket navigated the Kessel Run, thus stripping it of its shiny exterior, and Han sacrificed the front-facing escape pod to elude the space monster attacking them, hence the reason for its forked front from that point forward. As for why the interior of the Millennium Falcon changed in the following decade, we can simply attribute that to wear and tear, as well as Han not caring as much about having it look luxurious like Lando did.

Don't forget to read CinemaBlend's review and To 3D guide for Solo: A Star Wars Story, and keep checking back for all the biggest updates concerning the Star Wars movies.
