The Star Wars franchise holds a special place in moviegoers hearts, as its been passed down across the generations. And though Disney is producing critically acclaimed and financially successful blockbusters, the fandom can't forget about George Lucas' divisive prequel trilogy. While there were some strong moments, those three films are largely considered the black sheep of the galaxy far, far away. But some great talent was attached, including Natalie Portman as Padme Amidala. Portman recently visited Disneyland, and snapped a fantastic photo with a Stormtrooper on the way. Check out the awesome photo below.

Just like the rest of us, Natalie Portman can't help but enjoy time in the most magical place on Earth. The Oscar Winning actress seem thoroughly tickled to be interacting with a Stormtrooper, despite her vast experience in the galaxy far, far away. Then again, she only had Clone Troopers in her movies, and didn't interact with them after Attack of the Clones' climactic battle on Genosis.

Natalie Portman may have been the female lead of all three prequel Star Wars movies, but she's been distancing herself from the property in the years since. The actress has been open about the difficulty of getting work after the movies completed, so she hasn't been keeping up with each blockbuster. Although she did score brownie points with her kids by bringing them to the set of The Last Jedi. It was also recently revealed she has never met her onscreen son, Mark Hamill. The two have somehow never crossed paths, although not purposefully. Let's hope Luke and Padme can finally come face to face soon.

Natalie Portman made her Star Wars debut with The Phantom Menace, playing Queen Amidala of Naboo. She was a fierce young ruler, whose outlandish outfits were only eclipsed by her commitment to her people. She'd eventually grow older and more mature with the following two blockbusters, striking up a secret romantic relationship with Anakin Skywalker. She also remained a staunch politician, serving on the Galactic Senate until its eventual takeover by Emperor Palpatine.

While Natalie Portman doesn't seem quite as Star Wars crazy as the rest of us, the above photo of her with a Stormtrooper in Disneyland is heartwarming, and will no doubt excite the generations of fans who followed her intergalactic adventures for three films.

How Joss Whedon Feels About His Unmade Wonder Woman Script

It's no secret that superhero movies are everywhere. With three shared universes currently producing massive blockbusters, there is a new comic book adaptation every month or so. Director/Joss Whedon has had plenty of experience with the genre, helping to shape the first two phases of the MCU while also directing The Avengers and recently working on DC's Justice League. Before dipping his toes into those waters, he actually wrote a proposed script for a Wonder Woman movie back in 2006. A draft of Whedon's script was recently leaked, where critics accused it of being misogynistic. Whedon has now opened up about this response and the script itself, saying:

I don't know which parts people didn't like, but I went and reread the script after I heard there was a backlash. I think it's great. And people say that it's not woke enough. I think they're not looking at the big picture. It's easy to take one phrase out of context.

The phrase in question was regarding the leaked script's early scenes, which made it seem like Diana Prince was more of a supporting character. Quite a bit of emphasis was put on the role of Steve Trevor, which seems to be one of its biggest criticisms. Plus, Diana was portrayed as far less caring and somewhat arrogant, which is in stark juxtaposition to her typical characterization.

The timing of Joss Whedon's script leak couldn't have been worse, as it directly followed Patty Jenkins' triumphant go with the DCEU's Wonder Woman. Jenkins made her protagonist kind, strong, and complex, and Whedon's script paled in comparison to the cultural moment that surrounded Jenkins' blockbuster.

In his same conversation with Variety, Joss Whedon addressed criticisms that his script wasn't as empowering as the one used in Wonder Woman. As he tells it,

Not that I was the most woke individual who ever lived 10 years ago; but I was in there swinging. And the movie has integrity.

Of course, the entire concept of being "woke" wasn't one that was even present in the pop culture lexicon back in 2006. The last few years have seen major steps forward in the industry revolving around inclusion and diversity, and therefore it may be unfair to compare Joss Whedon's script with the one written by Allan Heinberg for the DCEU.

While Joss Whedon's script for Wonder Woman might not have been up to snuff, he's certainly a director who has written for strong female characters before. Whedon is perhaps best known for his groundbreaking work in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and he also created female-centric stories in his shows Firefly and Dollhouse. The Avengers finally allowed Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow to take center stage as well. These reasons are why he seemed like the perfect person to direct the DCEU's Batgirl movie, although he's since departed the project.The next installment in the DCEU is James Wan's Aquaman on December 21, 2018. Mark Hamill Says He Also Had Issues With Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi

It is no secret that Mark Hamill didn't initially love Luke Skywalker's story in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Mark Hamill is a huge fan of the Star Wars universe and feels a sense of ownership over Luke Skywalker, so he is going to be skeptical of any deviation from what he envisions for the character. While he eventually came around on The Last Jedi and regretted voicing his doubts, this wasn't the first time that Mark Hamill had some qualms with what the Star Wars film series was doing with his character. He also had issues with the darker direction for Luke in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, as he explained:

I read [the script for] Jedi and thought, 'Wait a sec! I thought I was heading toward the struggle of heading to the Dark Side. I'm in black. I have a glove. I see a trend here.'

It's funny to think that a version of Luke that is so beloved now, clad in black and wielding a green lightsaber, is something that Mark Hamill had issues with before filming. That version of Luke Skywalker walking into Jabba's palace in a black robe is one of the character's most badass moments. But you can see how all the symbolism might have looked to Hamill at the time. It might have seemed like this character was destined to turn to the dark side. Speaking at the SXSW Film Festival (via ArsTechnica) it is clear that Mark Hamill had a vision and his own ideas for Luke Skywalker in his head, and they hewed closer to the unwaveringly good and hopeful farm boy of A New Hope who was eager to become a Jedi and not someone who was straddling between light and dark.

Apparently, like Anakin Skywalker before him, Mark Hamill is a slow learnerm and he also doubted Rian Johnson's vision just as he once doubted George Lucas'. Rian Johnson's film introduced audiences to a Luke Skywalker different from the farm boy and even the character at the end of Return of the Jedi. The Jedi master had become bitter, cynical, devoid of hope and resigned to death. This was not the Luke we fell in love with and Mark Hamill did not approve. But just as Luke Skywalker didn't give in to the dark side temptation in Return of the Jedi, he didn't give in to despair in The Last Jedi, reigniting hope in the galaxy and changing Mark Hamill's mind. Such is the case with hindsight. Even The Empire Strikes Back, the greatest sequel of all time, had its doubters when it released, but the arc of history is long and perhaps those who don't love The Last Jedi now will come to appreciate it in time.

It is great that Mark Hamill cares as much about Luke Skywalker as the fans do, and he has his own beliefs about what is best for the character and where his story should go. Not all actors feel that kind of attachment to their characters, but it is great when they do. Perhaps if Luke Skywalker returns in Episode IX as a Force ghost, Mark Hamill will finally learn to trust the filmmakers, but if I were J.J. Abrams, I'd be ready to field some complaints.
